I’ve been using Social Media for about a year & a half. I was the original skeptic!!! “ No way do I want my information out there! I don’t want my information out there for everyone to see!” After getting on myspace.com, I quickly realized that this site for me was a lot of work to maintain. As an active REALTOR®, as well as a Trainer for Houston Association of Realtors www.har.com, my time was very valuable to me. So in my mind, I did not have time to spend on social web sites that were not going to show me a return on my investment. But myspace.com opened my eyes to the potential of social media with the awareness of my friends that I was an agent. My sister turned me on to Facebook.com and said it was much easier and less maintenance! “I’m in!!!” was my thought! So off to Facebook.com I go….

I loved Facebook because it was easy to work with and I was reconnecting with all these friends from the past! Facebook has allowed me to take my networking that I was physically doing in person and add another element to that -virtually! It has turned into a database for me…I can refer prospects to other clients through Facebook, as well as receive referrals from my other FB friends (past clients, Sphere of Influence and other real estate agents). If I need information quickly, I can FB asking my friends for a good sheetrock person, trash removal company, etc… Before FB, I would have to take the time to google the information or research, which was very time consuming. Now, within minutes I can get my questions answered and be able to help out my clients or friends….Being part of a community larger than my local sphere and utilitizing the talents of my FB friends, is an awesome experience! Now, I feel that I am more connected with people than I have ever been able to be before!

The biggest question that most people ask me, is it worth my time? My answer is “How can building relationships not help you?” Has it been worth my time? Yes it has! Personally and professionally! Professionally, approximately 70% of leads that I receive right now are through my FB contacts. Does that mean they all pan out into deals, NO! Personally, I have loved starting new friendships or developing current friendships using Facebook.

If you start using Social Media thinking relationships first, then the return will come later. It’s all about the relationships for me!

That’s the beauty of Social Media from Amy’s persepective!
